Mediterranean Cruises on Disney Magic
11-Night Mediterranean Cruise – Departing on May 28, 2011, this will be the first Mediterranean cruise of the season. The eleven-night cruise will depart Barcelona, Spain and visit the ports of Valletta (Malta), Tunis (Tunisia), Naples (Italy), Civitavecchia (Italy), La Spezia (Italy), Ajaccio (France), Villefranche (France) and three days at sea. Other cruise departures during 2011 include June 18th and July 9th.
10-Night Mediterranean Cruise – This ten-day cruise will be offered in 2011 on June 8th, June 29th and July 20th. The ports of call include the same as the eleven-night cruise except there are only two days at sea.
7-Night Mediterranean Cruise – Roundtrip from Barcelona, Spain, seven-night cruises begin on July 30, 2011. The initial seven night cruise includes the ports of Cannes (France), La Spezia (Italy), Civitavecchia (Italy), Naples (Italy), Palma (Spain) and one day at sea. The rest of the seven-night Mediterranean cruises for 2011 will substitute Cannes for Villefranche and will be offered on August 6, 13, 20, 27 and September 3, 2011.
Europe Cruise Ports on Disney Magic Cruise
Valletta, Malta – This port dates back 7,000 years and offers a few different sightseeing excursions but kids might prefer to swim with dolphins at the Mediterraneo Marine Park.
Tunis, Tunisia – Perched on the northern tip of Africa, this Muslim capital city is very exotic. Visit the marketplace (medina) for local goods and culture, ride a camel or donkey or just head to a private beach resort.
Naples, Italy – Naples is better known as the birthplace of pizza, so sampling the local cuisine is one option while in port. Excursions include a boat ride to the island of Capri, sightseeing at Pompeii or shopping in the chic seaside town of Positano.
Civitavecchia, Italy – This port is the gateway to Rome which is the home of the Colosseum and Vatican City.
La Spezia, Italy – La Spezia is relatively close to the city of both Florence and Pisa. Have a photo taken next to the Leaning Tower of Pisa or take a Tuscan cooking lesson.
Ajaccio, France – This port is located on the island of Corsica, France. Choose to head to the beach or take an historical tour that highlights monuments dedicated to Napoleon.
Villefranche, France – Located on the French Riviera, Villefrance is near Monte Carlo and Cannes. Port adventures include a walking tour of the Prince’s Palace, shopping in Cannes or visiting the casino in Monte Carlo.
Cannes, France – Cannes is renowned for its celebrity sightings and luxury shopping. History buffs will enjoy the Old City featuring an 11th century castle. There are also a number of beaches for swimming and sunbathing.
Palma, Spain – Located on the island of Mallorca in Spain, Palma offers boutiques, restaurants and historic sites such as a 13th century cathedral and the 11th century Arab baths.
Disney Cruise Line Repositioning Cruises 2011
14-Night Transatlantic (Eastbound) – On May 14, 2011, the Disney Magic will depart Port Canaveral on her repositioning cruise from Florida to Europe. The cruise will include a stop at Castaway Cay, Madeira (Portugal), Gibraltar, Barcelona and eight days at sea. Passengers will spend a full day and an overnight in Barcelona, Spain before disembarking on May 28th.
14-Night Transatlantic (Westbound) – On September 10, 2011, the Disney Magic will depart Barcelona, Spain on her repositioning cruise from Europe to Florida. The cruise will include a stop at Gibraltar, Madeira, St. Maarten, Tortola, Castaway Cay and eight days at sea before ending in Port Canaveral, Florida on September 24, 2010.
The Disney Magic is 83,000 Gross Registered Tons and carries 2,400 passengers and 950 crew members. It was built in 1998 as Disney Cruise Line’s first cruise ship and had a major refit in 2005. During 2011, when the Disney Magic is not in Europe, she will be cruising in the Caribbean from Port Canaveral, Florida.
