Cruise Line Job: Cruise Sales Consultant

  • Job Description – The cruise ship job of Cruise Sales Consultant is responsible for providing itinerary details and cruise fares to passengers. This onboard cruise sales manager promotes and sells future cruises to passengers.

  • Typical Day of a Cruise Sales Consultant – Keeps regular desk hours for passengers to stop by, ask questions and book future cruises. On sea days the Cruise Sales Consultant usually hosts a future cruise presentation about other itineraries.

  • Experience Required – This cruise ship job requires previous sales experience, excellent communication and public speaking skills, and knowledge of the cruise industry. Applicants for this position are also provided with an intensive training program.

Cruise Line Job: Port and Shopping Guide

  • Job Description – The Port and Shopping Guide is responsible for keeping passengers informed about shopping in the ports of call. This cruise ship job educates guests about cruise line sponsored stores and duty free products. Their role is to promote luxury merchandise from promotional partners, generate foot traffic into stores and target the promotion of specific items to passengers.

  • Typical Day of a Port and Shopping Guide – During sea days, this cruise ship job hosts multi-media presentations and seminars. The object of the seminars is to entertain and motivate the guests to shop in the cruise line sponsored stores. Cruise Line Job: Art Auctioneer

  • Job Description – The Art Auctioneer is responsible for auctioning or selling art onboard the cruise ships. Eight major cruise lines use Plymouth Auctioneering to provide services for Park West Gallery, a privately held art auction company.

  • Typical Day of an Art Auctioneer – Throughout the cruise, a number of art auctions are held which the art auctioneer hosts. Duties include planning art events, giving art seminars, managing the onboard art gallery and administrative duties such as sending out flyers and handling daily sales paperwork.

  • Experience Required – Public speaking skills are essential as well as proven sales experience and the ability to work independently. Although knowledge of art is an asset to getting hired, the hiring concessionary provides extensive training for those willing to learn.
